In one of my earlier post I mentioned about how I used to go on wild life safaris as a kid. So I thought why not take my kids to one and for them to experience the same. Yala is a wild life sanctuary in the South East of Sri Lanka. As a kid I have camped inside the park, got chased by elephants, then elephants have rounded our jeep and not been able to move, the jeep has got stuck in a river in Yala block 2 trying to cross it and so so many different adventurous memories. However this is the first time I took my kids. I wish I had done it earlier with them as they just enjoyed the entire experience of going in the jeep, trying to spot animals and trying to be quiet when they spot one. Surprisingly they even enjoyed the entire experience of staying in a small hut type of bunglow called Tamarind Shade without many luxuries. Very basic place but full of nature around us. There were wild peacocks walking around in the garden. How sweet is that? The bunglow we stayed had a tree house so it was so much fun for the kids. They made it their fortress. We saw plenty of migrant birds and other wild animals. During the evening safari we saw a heard of elephants with babies right near our jeep. I love to see them in their natural habitat. In the morning safari my husband went with our friends and had spotted a leopard with a rabbit just hunted in his mouth coming down the road. They were unable to take any photos because it was so sudden and they were too excited to pull their cameras out and by the time they decided the leopard had taken off into the jungle. I really wish they took some pictures. Anyway enjoy the photos I took and more of our trip later in another post.

ReplyDeleteDimi..
OPS, I thought the picture was of insects mating until I read your description :0
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun trip to do! Though I have a love/hate relationship with those peacocks. Our local zoo has them roaming freely in the park, and they have a tendency to get up on the arbors and poop on you when you sit down below.....
Your pictures are absolutely gorgeous! These look like something out of a magazine. The tree house also sounds cool!

I wished I could go on safari trips too. I love animals and wildlife but the closest I could get to them would be the zoo. It is also an enriching experience for your kids too.

Thanx for your suggestion. I would not consider LASIK yet. The myopia degree for my poorer eye is 600+ and the better eye is 100+. So my overall vision is 100+ coz I naturally and uncontrollably use my good eye to see. I find it pretty wasted to correct 100+ vision. Furthermore, I have friends who see halos and friends whose degree continued not to remain perfect after LASIK. Lastly, I’m quite vain coz I would dread the fact of not ever being able to wear coloured lenses again even if it is for a day.
I’m so glad that LASIK has saved you lots of inconvenience.

ReplyDeleteAh, I know what you mean. I used to have to put a patch on my strong eye too so as to allow the weak eye to work but mine didn't get better unfortunately. It is good that the patch is keeping your daughter's eyesight in check.
